Bighorn River Floats

Floating the Bighorn River is a great way to experience the Bighorn mainly because there is such a lack of access points that much of the river is only accessible via boat. Most Guided float trips on the Bighorn River originate right outside of Fort Smith, Montana.

If you do not have your own raft, drift boat, or pontoon boat you have two options. You can hire a Bighorn River Guide or you can Rent a Drift Boat and float on your own. A guided trip is a great way to learn the intricacies  of this river and start catching fish. The guide is sure to get you up to speed on the day to day changes of the river and it’s many unique patters. getting a rental drift boat on the Bighorn River is also a great way to experience the river. The Bighorn is rather placid so many people row their first drift boat on this river. You can get out there on your own and have a fun and peaceful day floating down this legendary river in your own boat. The rental service includes the transportation of the boat as well as your car. So you drive to the ramp and load up in your boat that is already in the water waiting for you and while you float down your vehicle is moved to the pre-determined take out. Upon the end of your day anchor the boat near the ramp and get in your waiting vehicle and travel back to the lodge for dinner.

A very popular option on the Bighorn River is to take a guide the first day or two and rent a boat the remaining days. This gets you familiar with the river enough to go enjoy it on your own and be successful right off the bat.

The Bighorn Angler has great packages for all of the above that includes meals at their restaurant and lodging as well as your guiding or drift boat rental, or both!
